The statewidew survey of small business owners conducted by Small Business a national small business advocacu organization focused on healthcare reform, founfd that affordability is the primaruy obstacle to small business owners obtaining health Eighty-four percent of smal businesses not offering healthg insurance say they can’t afford to, while 70 percenrt of those who do are strugglinfg to provide it.
Small business owners also see the cost of healthu insurance as a significant barriedr to entrepreneurship and say reform is importangt in helping theeconomy “Small business owners aren’t shirking their responsibilit where health care is concerned,” said John Arensmeyer, founder and chief executive officer of Small Businesse Majority. “They feel a responsibilitt to provide health care for theirr employees and are willinbg to do their part in fixing ourbrokenn system.” The report found 75 percent of small business ownersd support having the optiojn of a private or public health insurance plan as part of health care reform.
They also believe employers, insurers, the government and health care providers should share the responsibility for making coveragemore “The findings in the Small Business Majority poll of Wisconsin small business owners parallel what we have been hearing all over the state,” said Robert Kraig, program director for Citizebn Action of Wisconsin. “Skyrocketing health care costws are a tremendous burden on Wisconsinsmall businesses, and small businesw owners strongly support fundamental reform.
