This decline is greater than the 17.5 percenty drop in RevPAR forecast for theoverall U.S. hotel industry in PKF’s recently released June 2009 HotelHorizonx report. “In 2009, San Antonio hotelz are projected to achieve an occupancy levellof 56.7 percent, down from the 65.2 percentg mark achieved in 2008,” says Randy McCaslin in the Houston office of PKF Consulting. “Givenh the increase in the competitives nature of thelocal market, average daily room rates are expecter to fall from $110.

Unfortunately for local area revenue per available room is not expecte d to achieve sustained growth until the thirf quarterof 2010, the report concludes. Unti l then, market conditions are favorable for travelers, but troublesome for ownersx and operators.
